Seems to be AncestryDNA week.
I found this posted on KCPW. An interview between The Bottom Line and Tim Sullivan, Ancestry’s President and CEO. Runs about half hour. Some of the interesting points about AncestryDNA can be heard starting at 4:45 minutes, 8:30 minutes, and around 10 minutes he discusses a desire to make AncestryDNA available at a low-cost. He used the term loss leader and I think it is a great idea. The decision to offer some people the test for $49 is a good follow-up to the free kit offered recently to new subscribers.
Looking forward to how this plays out. With a full genome DNA test available for between $1,500 and 1,800 with two other companies, it’s only a matter of time before the $99 autosomal test drops dramatically in price. Some people estimate a full DNA test will drop to $1,000 before the end of next year. How long before the once mythical $100 full DNA test becomes reality?
